Sisters and brothers, wherever you are,
Peace be with you!
If you feel that we have been quiet for a long time you should take it as good sign meaning "things are fine". We are doing well here in Lushoto and Magamba. We are moving on with the work of the university with gradual progress and thank God for that. It is also very good to have you, our artners all over the world, supporting us in this work.
New instructors have been recruited fo General and Special Needs Education departments. We have new instructors in Mathematics and Languages. Also the subject of Development Studies is being taught since the beginning of the second semester.
If we receive approval from the Tanzania Commission for Universities, we will be able to begin with the Faculty of Law in the coming academic year. The curriculum for that programme has already bee approved by the Tumaini University Senate.
We are also in the final steps of the preparations of the programme of Bachelor of Science in Eco-tourism and Nature Conservation. We have succeeded to do the following: First, the curriculm has been finalized and is therefore ready to be submitted to the Senate Committee of Academic and Curriculum Affairs of Tumaini University in thecoming month. It will then have to be approved by the Tumaini University Senate before being submitted to the Tanzania Commission for Universities for final approval. Secondly, we have already employed two senior lecturers for this programme who have long experience of university work and teaching. We also have 5 part timers who will teach different subjects in Eco-tourism and Nature Consevation. Three of them are professors, one is a senior lecturer and one is a tutorial assistant. Thirdly, the biology laboratory of former Magamba Secondary School have been identified as the first lab for the programme of Bachelor of Science in Eco-tourism and Nature Conservation. However, this venue needs some reparations and furniture.
We are now working hard to secure books and laboratory equipment. We still do not know how much the books will cost because we will have to order them from abroad. There is a huge shortage of books in Tanzania. The calucations have been done for the basic laboratory equipment needed when the programme begins. It will cost around Tshs. 18,000,000/=.
The Faculty of Education (Special Needs) is progressing well. Recently, we were able to buy some equipment for the Visual Impairment Department and very little for the Hearing Impairment department. The equipment was purchased in Dar es Salaam where we found a dealer through the Ministry of Education. Hitherto, we have purchased: - 5 Perkins Braille Machines
- 5 White canes (rigid)
- 5 white canes (folded)
- One Universal Braille kit
- 40 Braille letter cubes
- 20 Stylus hard plastic
- 3 hearing aids (of two different types)
We are now starting the midterm tests for the second semester (26th April - 2nd May). We call upon God's guidance and blessings over our students.
The community of Sebastian Kolowa Univeristy College thanks you all for continued support and cooperation! Let us strive together to make SEKUCo live up to its motto: Acquire Knowlege, Serve with Compassion.
Yours in Christ,
Anneth
