Bishop and Mrs. Munga were recently invited to Germany where they attended 100 year Jubilee of Bethel Mission, took part in seminars, met with partners of the Diocese and visited some congregations and institutions. Wherever they went, they were received with warm hospitality.
Informing about SEKUCo and finding partners to cooperate with was also on the agenda and the efforts were successful. Universities, congregations, institutions and groups showed great interest in the project. We bring you some glimpses of the visit through these photos.
Bishop and Mrs. Munga were invited to Versmold by Rev. Kirsten Potz and participated in a worship service which was attended the Mayor of the town, Mr. Thorsten Klute. After the worship the Mungas were given a very special honour: To sign their names in the Golden Book of Versmold town. Image
The NED is part of the United Evangelical Mission (UEM). Naturally, we have been seeking to cooperate with UEM. During the visit, we had two meetings with several UEM officers working in Wuppertal and Bethel.

UEM has agreed to send the librarian serving at the headoffice in Wuppertal, Mr. Wolfgang Apelt, to Magamba for a short period in order to enable him to see the place where SEKUCo will be opened, give preliminary advice to us and plan how the libraries at both Campuses should be structured. After that, Mr. Apelt will plan a longer visit at a later period. The UEM office in Wuppertal will stand for all costs. BTW, Mr. Apelt used to work as librarian at the former Lutheran Theological College at Makumira (current MUCo) during the 1980s and 1990s.

We also expect UEM to send Mr. Manske as a consultant who will help us to set up the Financial Department of SEKUCo. Mr. Manske has served at the headquarters of UEM in Wuppertal for many years.

We are also glad that UEM has agreed to coordinate the handling of any funds and books that will come in from different parts in Germany for SEKUCo. Ms. Angelika Veddeler and Mr. Manske, both from the UEM office, will meet Prof. Dittmann of Bonn University in December this year in order to agree on how UEM can facilitate in this coordination.

A Memorandum of Understanding for future cooperation has been signed between the Department of Geography of Bonn University and SEKUCo. Prof. Andreas Dittmann and Dr. Anneth Munga signed for the respective institutions.
Bishop Munga and his wife were warmly welcomed by pupils and teachers at a special school in Minden, Wichernschule. Community and Church leaders were also present. The pupils sang several songs in Swahili, one of them being Mambo yetu sawasawa which means Things are alright!  Image

There was also a meeting between the Mungas and the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Prof. Helmut Giestefeldt, with his delegation held in Minden. It was agreed that this Faculty will assist in planning and starting up a Department of Civil Engineering as part of the Faculty of Technology and Engineering of SEKUCo.
