Mrs Munga explains to pastors about Campus A
Director of SEKUCO project, Anneth Munga, writes about recent and upcoming events for the Sebastian Kolowa University College. She can tell us how pastors from the NED, gathered for studies contributed to the new project.

Fellow Pastors, I have a word to say. In my opinion, it is impossible for us to go back to our congregation members after finishing this meeting and ask them to contribute to the SEKUCO Project if we don’t start to show the way. How can you teach your children to work on the farm without yourself holding the hoe and showing how to dig? If you want your children to know what farming is about, you must take the hoe, start to remove the grass and dig properly. Your children will follow you and they will do it well because you showed them through action what to do. This applies even for this University College Project. We ourselves have to begin acting today – here and now. We need to start giving our contributions at this very moment. Only then will we be able to go back to our congregations and tell our people to contribute to the project!

Pastor Mahonge from Muheza had spoken, and before finishing, Pastor Mwinuka from Lwandai was already heading towards the front table with a 10,000 Tanzanian Shillings note (around 10 US dollars). Pastor Kanju from Bangala stood up and joined Mwinuka, followed by Pastor Hoza from Malibwi, … and thereafter I lost the record.
Pastors Mbilu from Mlalo and Ngugi from Lushoto volunteered to record the money that was being contributed and at the end of the exercise they could report that the pastors had contributed (cash and pledges) more than Tshs. 1,500.000/=, i.e., over 1,500 US dollars!!
Anyone who is acquainted with pastors’ salaries in a country like Tanzania will understand that these pastors did not contribute out of their surplus. They had indeed been digging deep into their pockets but also into their reserves.

The Pastors meeting took place in the Rainbow hall at Irente Rainbow School from 29 November to 2 December

All pastors in the NED had been meeting at Irente Rainbow School for 5 days in order to study the Bible together and discuss different issues. As Director of SEKUCO project, I was given an opportunity to talk to the pastors. On the last day of our meeting, all pastors went to Magamba so as to see both Campuses A and B. They wanted to get the “feel” of the place where SEKUCO is going to start in less than two years. Truly, the visit had a positive impact on the pastors and they really became “fires and flames”. When we returned to Rainbow, we had the Closing Service, after which the pastors started to brainstorm on how the NED members should contribute and raise funds for the project. All suggestions (17 altogether) were written down and a committee was given the task to work on them and come up with a good plan. After the suggestions had been collected, Pastor Mahonge stood up. With the example of a parent who teaches children how to dig, he admonished us all to express our determination concretely before departing. That evening’s contribution shows that the commitment of the NED pastors to the SEKUCO project is very strong!

Welcome to support the SEKUCO project!

The calendar for December looks as follows:

  • 7/12 The engineer will visit Magamba Campuses A and B again.
  • 9/12 The SEKUCO project committee meets in Lushoto.
  • 11/12 Director of SEKUCO project visits Korogwe congregation.
  • 12/12 Tendering process begins.
  • 18/12 Director of SEKUCO project visits Bumbuli congregation

Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings,

Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.

Ascribe to the LORD the glory of his name;

Worship the LORD in holy array.

(Psalm 29: 1-2).
