For the three consecutive years, since 2006 North Eastern Diocese has been conducting choirs’ festival. This year September 7th 2008 the festival was conducted at Makorora Parish in Tanga city, where more than 15 choirs participated. The choir festival event this year was very successful among many good things observed are the improving of the level of singing of many participating choirs. They way choir uses stage and performs.

The festival preceded by the Sunday service that was attended by all participating choirs attended the event. During the services that was led Bishop Dr. Munga, reminded the participating choir that by coming together and singing we are trying to follow Jesus Christ teaching that ‘all should be one’ we should have unity in our diocese we should have common goals in our activities. However, singing together will help us to come together in our diocese. The bishop insisted that we are here not to win and have trophy but to show that each choir from where they come from through their unity can show to other that can do something and today can sing new song to others for great things they have received from God. Bishop Munga stressed that; if we are divided we will not be able to have such time today.  We need unit in our diocese that is why Jesus prayed that father I pray that may have unit. So as world knows that we are God’s people.

The choirs’ festival started soon after the service where by each choir had opportunity to perform on a stage. There were six groups of choirs whereas each group had four choirs representing four deaneries of the diocese.

The winners in each group were as follows:

  1. Parish choirs (Elders):- First runner: Kana parish; Second runner: Muheza parish choir.
  2. Middle (Evangelists) choirs with Guitars: - First runner: Korogwe parish; Second runner: Mikanjuni sub parish, Makorora Parish.
  3. Middle Evangelist Choirs without Guitars: - First runner: Makorora parish, Second runner: Mikanjuni sub parish of Makorora Parish.
  4. Trumpet choirs: - First runner: Korogwe parish Trumpet choir.
  5. Youth Choirs with Guitars: - First runner: Muheza parish youth choir; Second runner Kisosora parish youth Choir.
  6. Youth choirs without Guitars:- First runner: Makorora Parish Youth Choir; Second runner: Mlalo parish youth Choir
At the end of the festival Bishop Munga presented trophy to winners of the different groups. However, before presenting he was given trophy as best singer by Mrs. Elifride Kolowa (on behalf of all singers) as a symbol of his contributions to the diocesan choirs’ festival.
