The North Eastern Diocese of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania held its Synod between 3^rd and 8^th March, 2008 under the chairmanship of Bishop Dr. Stephen Munga. During the meeting, the following constitution amendments were made:

• The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania - North Eastern Diocese should read: The North Eastern Diocese of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania.
• The four units of the Diocese formerly known as Districts will now be called Deaneries. The Head of a Deanery will be titled Dean. The Assistant to Bishop who was formerly titled Dean is now to be called Principal Dean or Dean of College.
